I was raised in Western New York (state) in a non-religious home. As a teenager I searched for spiritual truth and found it in Jesus Christ. Today I'm an ordained Evangelical minister and missionary to elected and appointed officials on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. I invite you to join me in reminding our top government leaders that we are all equally dependent on and accountable to an Almighty God!

Great times and great people!

It was a big weekend for me and Faith and Action. I visited the magnificent Christian Assembly in Columbus, Ohio. I’ve been coming and going as a speaker for this dynamic church for over 18 years, but this occasion was special. The Reverend Dr. Sam Farina and his wife, Paulette, celebrated their fortieth anniversary of ministry to the congregation. As I pointed out in my remarks at a Saturday luncheon in the Farinas honor, such a long tenure smashes the national statistics on pastoral longevity. Obviously, something is working at Christian Assembly—and their long legacy is bearing extraordinary fruit well beyond the borders of their own community.

Faith and Action depends heavily on extraordinary leaders like the Farinas. Dr. Farina (or Pastor Sam, as he is affectionately known by his flock) has been a long-time member of our National Clergy Council executive committee. The NCC is our vanguard of prophetic ministry to the Nation’s elected and appointed officials. Since our inception 25 years ago, we’ve always found government people more responsive to clergy—particularly pastors—because they know clergy make contact with hundreds (if not thousands) of ordinary Americans each week. Pastors—and church leaders in general—have more clout in Washington than they ever imagine. If you’re a member of the clergy and you’d like to be involved with us, please contact me at info@faithandaction.org. If you’re a lay person, let your pastor know we need him. And, if you know any others in Christian ministry that have a particular passion for the soul of our American culture and civilization, send them our way!

The busy weekend continued into Labor Day. While most people were enjoying backyard barbeques, an ad hoc team of advisors joined my brother, Paul, and me at our ministry center on Capitol Hill for a strategic planning summit. We prayerfully put together a plan to extend the mission of Faith and Action to every state capital. It was a very stimulating experience. At first, the task looked quite daunting. But David Hensey, a successful entrepreneur from Nevada, introduced us to something called “helloWorld!” This new Internet-based video technology will enable us to communicate by video with anyone who has access to a computer. We were up and running literally in minutes!

You’ll be reading about our “State-by-State” plan in the days ahead. Suffice it to say that what at first looked liked it would be impossibly difficult and expensive, is now very much doable. The Lord has enabled us to convert our Washington, DC, missionary objective—to challenge Capitol Hill with Biblical Truth and change the National one policymaker at a time—to each and every one of the 50 states and our US territories. (For that matter, the same technology will allow to go around the world!)

I really want you to see this technology in action. To get a beta test copy of my first video E-mail, just send me all your contact information at allysonblack@faithandaction.org.

Speaking of Internet-based technology: Just one week to go before launch of our weekly Internet Broadcast, Faith and Action Live! Be sure to tune in every Wednesday at 12 noon for this exciting one-hour report live form your Nation’s capital! I’ll give you the behind-the-scenes report on what God is doing through Faith and Action in Washington. You’ll also get my commentary on the great issues and personalities of the day. (You’ll find a link at our website: www.faithandaction.org.)

Please pass the information along: Faith and Action Live! – every Wednesday, 12 noon to 1:00. I’ll present our report in 15-minute segments in case you can’t listen in for the whole hour. Each broadcast will also be archived so you can download it later.

Before I go: I’ll be preaching this Saturday evening and Sunday morning at the exciting City View Church in York, PA, with Pastor Joe Kopp. I don’t have their exact contact information with me, but you can Google them! If you can, drop by. You’ll enjoy them as much as I do!

Be back with more. . .
